The Santacruzan is a novena procession usually held in honor of the Virgin Mary. It also commemorates the early Christian’s finding of the Cross. While it celebrated in the Philippines during the month of May, it used to be held on May 3 being the day when Empress Elena was the mother of Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman Emperor who embraced Christianity by stopping the persecutions of Christians.

In early times, Santacruzan was considered sacred celebration, but today in many places in the Philippines Santacruzan has become a cross between s religious procession and a beauty pageant. Here the highest tribute that could be given is Reyna Elena.
